"Only believers will ascend to heaven" - discuss?

I am a Catholic. I went to a private Catholic school for about 10 years, however, I believe someone who is faithful to their religion will go to heaven. For instance, my beliefs may be different than yours, but if we both do what we are supposed to for our own religion, it shows that we are faithful people, and tried as hard as we could to be good people. I believe there isn't one religion that is better than any other, people just feel differently about things, but that doesn't make them bad people. I think if someone is just a really good person, helps people in need, has good thoughts toward people, and tries to be the best person he or she can be, you will go to heaven.
