Why is space exploration important?

It is important because of all of the technological advances that are made along the way. Exploring space isn't really all that important in and of itself - it's what is learned in the process and also in the information gathered from experiments done on the international space station that make it worthwhile. Satellites, for example, which run everything now, would not exist otherwise.
