Getting over a boy who cheats on you...?

okay so i was dating this guy for a while and i had always heard stuff before we started talking that he just tried to get to get stuff from girls and got drunk and did stuff with girls but he never was like that with me.. he never asked me to drink but he would always ask me how far i would go with him but then say that he didnt wanna take things to fast if i wasnt ready because he didnt want it ti ruin anything. we are both very athletic and so most of the time we could only see each other at school. he would always try to kiss me and make out with me at school but i wouldnt because our school is really stupid about pda and there are caremas literally everywhere.and he would kinda get aggarvated that i wouldnt but would say he was okay. i thought everything was great until a week ago one of our mutual friends texted me saying that he was pretty much going to end it soon.. after school we had talked and i could tell her had wanted to tell me something but he didnt and then at one point i had to go to practice. so i texted him and asked him if there was something he wanted to tell me. he broke up with me over a text because he had been cheating on me since the begining when he got drunk with some girl i dont know. i know i shouldnt want anything to do with him but i still think about him all the time, we were supposed to go to a dance together but when we ended it i didnt have a date. he asked me again if i would go with him but i couldnt let myself get screwed over by him again so i said no even though i really wanted to. he found out that someone else asked me to go to the dance and was really mad for some reason. idk if i should still try to be friends with him or if i should just try to avoid him until i am completely over him..
